PLATINUM MINING
At Dam Mining we invest in Platinum mining for Uses specialized offshore vessels with heavy seabed crawlers and suction pipes to harvest diamonds hundreds of meters underwater.
Platinum is mined via open-pit methods (such as Mogalakwena) or deep underground shafts (often 2 miles deep targeting thin 8-to-12-inch ore seams). Processing one ton of raw ore typically yields only 3 to 7 grams of platinum.
The matte undergoes base metal removal (copper and nickel) and is treated with strong acids like aqua regia (a mix of hydrochloric and nitric acid) to dissolve the noble metals
Ore is crushed and milled into a fine powder. Air bubbles are introduced in a flotation cell; platinum-bearing particles attach to the froth and are skimmed off
Pure platinum precipitates out as a gray powder (“sponge platinum”), which is then melted in induction furnaces (above 1,700°C) and cast into bars, ingots, or sheet.
